Embrace the elements and head out for an exciting downtown winter race - The PolarBear 5k! The race runs in conjunction with Portland's outdoor WinteRush Festival. A great training goal for mid-winter, the PolarBear 5k offers t-shirts and sponsor discounts for the first 150 registrants.

We have over 300 athletes signed up! If you were not one of the first 150 to register and want to get a race shirt, you can order one at number pick up for $5. They will be available within a couple weeks at the Tri-Maine offices.

When: Saturday, February 13th, 9:05am start time.

Where: Start and Finish at the Loring Memorial Circle on Eastern Prom Road, near Washington Ave on the East End of Portland. Registration on race morning will take place at the East End School on North Street.

Pre-Race Registration will take place at Maine Running Company on Forest Ave on Friday, February 12th from 3pm to 6pm. We recommend that you check in on Friday so that we can take care of any outstanding issues. Click here for directions to Maine Runnning Company.

Please park along the Eastern Prom or Walnut St. There is no race-day parking allowed on North Street or at the School. This includes spectators as well. A number of roads/intersections will be closed on race morning to control traffic. Please plan to arrive early (before 8:30am).

Cost: $15 - Includes safe, controlled, unique course with police and volunteer support, aid station at mile 1.5, professional timing and announcing, spectacular start/finish area, post-race refreshments, handwarmers, a $5 coupon to use on other Tri-Maine event entry fees, the chance to win valuable awards from Maine Running Company, and a lot of fun with hundreds of fellow runners.

Awards will be presented inside the East End School at approximately 10:15am. They will be given to the top 3 Male and Female finishers overall, as well as the top finishers in each age category.

The PolarBear 5k is Portland's only downtown February road race. Get ready for the upcoming season by taking part in this fun event - whatever Mother Nature throws at us!

Please note: Because the official course utilizes bike trails, there is a chance that it will be too icy to run on, in which case, we will follow an alternative course. This determination will be made before race morning and announced on the website.

First 150 entrants receive a shirt with the race logo.

An athlete's guide will be e-mailed to all registered athletes a few days before the race with specific instructions about parking, road closures, etc.

The PolarBear 5k is part of Portland WinteRush, a city-wide celebration of the season. Portland WinteRush is happening on Saturday, February 13th in Deering Oaks Park. Check out www.portlandwinterush.com for all the details about the exciting activities taking place.

Online registration will be available until 6pm Thursday, February 11th. There will be registration available on Friday from 3pm to 6pm at Maine Running Company, or on Saturday from 7:30am to 8:30am at the East End Community Center (race check-in).
